DROYLSDEN 2 - 0 FLEETWOOD TOWN Blue Square North - Saturday 29th August 2009 Report by Gary Owen A blistering first half display from the hosts was the difference between the two teams, which saw Droylsden open up an early unassailable two goal lead, and leave the Fleetwood fans crying “what a load of rubbish” to their team at the end. Droylsden got off to a dream start inside three minutes when a Neil Sorvel pass found Sean Whalley in space, who took a touch before slotting past Danny Hurst. Simon Yeo then landed header on top of the net before The Bloods doubled their lead on ten minutes with a great individual goal from Alex Brown. The midfielder collected the ball from Yeo and beat no fewer than three Fleetwood defenders with clever feet before beating Hurst from a central position. The Cod Army responded through Jamie Milligan, but his effort from the edge of the box flew just over, and Nathan Pond also saw an effort go too high. In between those, Sean Whalley cut inside Ashley Wooliscroft, but Hurst beat away his curling shot. Brown should have made it 3-0 moments before the break, but he drilled over the bar from 14 yards after good work by Yeo. Ex-Blood Jamie McGuire was then lucky to stay on the field when he landed a punch on Liam Browhill's cheek when jumping for a header. The second half was a rather turgid affair in comparison to the first, but is was the visitors who were out of the blocks quickest. Town had a good shout for a penalty when Adam Warlow appeared to be pulled back in the box, but the referee was not impressed. Richard Mercer then saw a header deflected wide for a corner as Town continued to seek a way back into the game, but Droylsden always looked dangerous on the break, and the destiny of the points was already determined.
