HYDE UNITED 1 – 3 DROYLSDEN Blue Square North – Saturday 11 April 2009 Report by Gary Owen The Bloods brushed aside Tameside neighbours Hyde United in the Easter sunshine at Ewen Fields, to keep play-off hopes alive but condemning The Tigers to a place in the Bank Holiday bottom three. Droylsden had a goal ruled out as early as the sixth minute for shirt pulling by Speight, when Kilbane was clearly tugging at the Droylsden striker's top. Droylsden continued to control the game, and there were cries for a penalty when Speight appeared to be bundled over in the box, but the ball rolled to Tony Gray who smashed it past the helpless Craig Dootson in front of the travelling faithful. Gray shot wide from a corner kick, and Craig Mawson had to tip over an effort from Kirkbridge. On 52 minutes, Gray benefitted from a mix up between Dootson and Thompson to score his fourth goal in two games. However, the Tigers set nerves jangling by pulling a goal back on 74 minutes when Daniel Douglas-Pringle poked home from Nick Clee's cross, but the ball appeared to take a touch off Sean Newton to catch Mawson flat-footed. Rory Patterson shot just wide from a free kick on 77 minutes, but at the other end Mawson saved well from Douglas-Pringle after a good run by Chris Simm as Hyde finally began to enjoy a bit of a purple patch. However, Droylsden regained control and former Blood Karl Munroe had to hook off the line from Patterson, but the Droylsden substitute kept battling, forcing Dootson into another save. Patterson got his just rewards on 88 minutes, when he dropped his shoulder to round Dootson and tap home into the unguarded net after good work by Ian Fitzpatrick. Gray shot over in the dying moments as Droylsden looked to turn the screw on Tolson's men, but Mr. Bristow brought matters to a close to save them any further embarrassment.
