DROYLSDEN 0 – 2 CAMBRIDGE UNITED BLUE SQUARE PREMIER – Saturday 5 April 2008 Report by Gary Owen Bloods' boss Dave Pace reflected on the number of games his side have had to play of late. "That was our fourth game in seven days, and it doesn't matter if you're full-time or part-time, that's tough for anyone. And we've recently been without a game for three Saturdays! I think today was just a game too far for us. Even I'm physically strained! But, I'm not making excuses - Cambridge beat us from start to finish today." On his side's chances of survival, he added "we must win as many as possible of our remaining six games – Altrincham have found a reprieve for the last three seasons, and I still maintain that Halifax should be relegated." It was Cambridge boss, Jimmy Quinn, who saw his side make a dream start when a deep corner by Courtney Pitt was headed back across goal by Wayne Hatswell for Ben Farrell to hook home off the underside of the bar from 10 yards out. Hatswell himself then saw a header fly too high, and Josh Coulson also had a header deflected over for a corner, as the visitors took control of proceedings in the opening 45 minutes. Droylsden threatened briefly after the break through Chris Denham and Levi Mackin, but Danny Potter was able to gather Mackin's deflected shot. Any thoughts of a Bloods' comeback were quashed on 52 minutes when Rob Wooleaston won possession and the ball fell at the feet of Beesley just outside the box. His right-footed drive found the top corner giving Paul Phillips no chance. Wooleaston pulled a shot a yard wide from the edge of the box, but the game then declined in terms of goal-mouth action until the final minute, when Mackin hauled back Wooleaston. Pitt took the ball, despite Lee Boylan being the usual penalty-taker. Phillips saved his shot and Pitt lofted the ball over the bar from the rebound, bit the defeat leaves the Bloods staring at relegation, which could be confirmed before next weekend.
